Waterfox will occassionally notify you if it detects behavior on your computer that appears to come from malicious software. If you see this message, please follow the recomendations below to check and ensure that you do not have any malicious software:
How do I get rid of malware?
Recent versions of Windows are likely to have basic free anti-virus software built in or available free from Microsoft. If your anti-virus and anti-spyware software hasn’t detected malware, scan your system with the free malware scanning programs listed below. You should scan with all programs because each program detects different malware and make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.
Anti-virus and anti-spyware software may sometimes generate false positives. Consider quarantining suspicious files rather than deleting them.
- Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware Free
- SuperAntispyware Portable Scanner
- Microsoft Safety Scanner
- Anti-Rootkit Utility - TDSSKiller (see this alternate TDSSKiller download page for more information)
- AdwCleaner (see this alternate AdwCleaner download page for more information)
Certain malware components can only be removed in Windows Safe ModeWindows Safe ModeWindows Safe Mode.
